There is no reciprocal agreement with the UK for the medical treatment of British citizens living in Turkey therefore adequate health insurance is a necessity. It is possible however to take out cover for in-patient treatment and pay as you go for any other treatments or medication..
INSURANCE COVER FOR THE OVER 55's: if you are thinking to retire and reside in Turkey on a permanent basis it is recommended that you take out medical cover with a Turkish insurance company prior to your 65th birthday to ensure that your coverage will be extended beyond this date. There are many insurance companies in Turkey: Koc Alliance, Commercial Union, Anadolu Sigorta etc. A website that gives a lot of information about medical insurance in Turkey is www.kasra.com.tr They have a section in English and good English-speaking staff.

BRINGING DOMESTIC PETS FROM THE UK IN TO TURKEY |
Date: 11.04.2006 |
| |
Prior to leaving the UK you will need to contact DEFRA (previously known as MAFF)and advise them of your intention to take your pet abroad. They will send you detailed information on what you must do. This will include taking your pet to the vet for injections, boosters and a rabies shot and obtaining a health certificate; your pet will also need to be micro-chipped and have its own passport.
Turkish Airlines will carry domestic pets but not all airlines will therefore you need to confirm this with them prior to booking your ticket. The airline will need to be advised 4 weeks in advance of the date you intend to fly.
Your pet will need to have its own special crate with a water dispenser attached to it. A crate will need to be specially made for your pet and you will need to know the height, length and weight of your pet to ensure the correct size carrier. Various companies in the UK make these crates and can deliver them to your door but you will need to give them approx. 6 weeks notice.
One important thing to remember is that your pet is not allowed any calming medication prior to or during the flight, if they are given anythig the airline will refuse to fly them.
Once here in Turkey there are many excellent veterinaries and your pet will be well taken care of! |

Under the new draft law regulating the acquisition of property and land by foreign nationals which was passed recently by the Turkish Parliament, the new law allows foreign nationals to purchase property for private dwelling or workplace under official plans providing there is a reciprocal agreement between Turkey and their native country. The total surface area of the property or land acquisition cannot exceed 2.5 hectares, however this can be increased up to a maximum of 30 hectares by special permission by the Turkish Cabinet.
Organisations, Foundations, Associations, Co-operatives, Societies or Communities may not purchase real estate in Turkey.
Legally inherited real estate or land by the citizens of those states with whom Turkey does not have a reciprocal agreement will be cancelled prior to transfer of ownership.
The Turkish Cabinet will hold the power to determine the areas where foreign nationals can buy and to determine the proportion of the surface area of property and land purchased by foreign nationals with the total proportion of land mass in those provinces not exceeding 0.5% of the surface area. |
